Larose Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2008

“Our flagship wine, Larose is one of the top Bordeaux-style reds in the world – an immensely complex wine of great ripeness. Stonyridge Vineyard was conceived and operated with the sole intention of making world-class Bordeaux-style red wine. This classic Cabernet-dominant blend is named Larose as a tribute to the rose, the most aromatic, colourful, intense, and beautiful of all flowers.

The vineyard site was chosen specifically to produce this style of wine. The gentle north-facing slopes of the vineyard are sheltered from the cold south-westerly winds by the ridge which gives the vineyard its name. Summer temperatures regularly reach over 30°C with the highest temperature being 36°C. Combined with north-facing rows and excellent viticulture, the grapes achieve perfect ripeness in normal years.”

Larose 2008

Stonyridge Winemaker

"some fine spices, cedar and pencil shavings are also derived from the oak. A big mouth filling wine, matured in 70% new French oak, engulfed by the huge ripe fruit. Richly flavoured and beautifully complex, with immaculate tannin and amazing structure. This wine is greatly concentrated with a finish that lasts and lasts. The Larose clearly has a long life ahead of it and the 2008 is a great vintage not to be missed."

Robert Parker The Wine Advocate Sept 2009

"The 2008 Larose shows great purity on the nose: blackberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of dried herbs. Quite understated but very good definition. There is a lovely chocolate scent off-stage that should evolve with time (think Pomerol.) The palate is very smooth, nice definition, dominated by the new oak at the moment but there is certainly sufficient fruit to support it. Very fine tannins on the finish that exudes so much precision and poise. It is superb."

Stonyridge Vineyard, Waiheke Island, New Zealand

New Zealand’s first Rhone Ranger wine, made with the classic ”GSM” (Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah) varieties of the south of France.

For hundreds of years, pilgrims have passed through Provence, Languedoc, and Rousillon on their way to Spain and the church of Santiago de Compostel. Their symbols are the cross and the scallop shell which appear on wall frescoes throughout the region, indicating that pilgrims are welcome and, more importantly, safe.

Drinking well through 2015

2008 Summer Bell Stonyridge Winemaker
"Deep garnet with good depth of colour. A pretty, fruit forward, bouquet showing complex aromas of blackberry, plum, cassis, liquorice, candied peel and spice and well integrated, classy oak. The wine is broad and mouthfilling with supple texture and weight and flavours of spiced plums, black cherry, and cassis on the palate with fine ripe tannin rounding off an elegant finish. "

Stonyridge Luna Negra 2008

Grapes: Malbec

Vineyard: Organic
Grown at Vina del Mar, Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Made at Stonyridge Vineyard, Waiheke Island, New Zealand

Description:
Malbec’s inherent weakness is that it can overcrop and become diluted and flabby. But our steep northeast-facing slope and low cropping produces a “Black Moon” Malbec that is thoroughbred. Drinking Luna Negra is like doing an energetic salsa with a Cuban beauty queen.

“From Stonyridge, this is a bold and consistently classy red.” Michael Cooper

Luna Negra – Tasting Notes & Reviews

Robert Parker
Wine Advocate Sept 2009
The 2008 Luna Negra Malbec is matured in 50% new French and 50% American oak. There is an attractive herbaceous nose with a touch of vanilla pod, then hints of lavender and violets with very fine definition. Fine tannins on the entry, very good acidity, great focus and poise with bilberry and briary towards the finish with a slight gravelly notes. Lovely.

A dark full bodied Pinot from New Zealand’s top region for this variety.  Intense dark colour, classic floral fruit on the nose with a pleasing savoury aspect to it, this generous red has a rich and complex palate with strong flavours of cherry, plum and spicy notes from 10 months in all French oak.  It has a warm dense texture under pinned by firm fine tannin.  Great drinking now; it has the potential to improve over the next three to five years.
